PBO’s Spanish Tip of the Week (9/12 – 9/18/16)

Hola chicos,
Here we go again with some of the most common errors made in Spanish class:

Don’t say: agusto for august
Say: agosto
Agusto was a dictator, the reason I left Chile. Agosto is the month ☺
Por ejemplo: Este año no hizo tanto calor en agosto.

Don’t say: atender for to attend
Say: asisitir
Asistir = to attend and Atender = to take care of, to look after or to attend to
Ejemplo: Asistí a Kutztown University. Atendí al cliente.

Don’t say: Estar + a profession
Do say: Ser + a profession, even if it was temporary
Ser is always used with professions.
Ejemplo: Soy maestra. Era gerente de hoteles.

Don’t say: necesitar for to need to
Say: tener que
Necesitar = to need
Tener que = to need to
Ejemplos: Tengo que ir al supermercado este finde. Necesito champú.

Don’t say: vegetables
Say: vegetales o verduras
In Spanish the word does not have a “b” in it
Ejemplo: Mi vegetal/verdura favorita es la remolacha/el betabel/la betarraga.

Ok chicos, that’s it for this week. I’ll be back next week with 5 more common errors.
