Pura Buena Onda’s Spanish Tip of the Week (8/22 – 8/28/16)

¡Hola chicos! Feliz viernes ☺

Last week we talked about correcting some of your recurring errors, where I suggested correcting one per week. From that post one of our students, Kimber, requested that I write a blog about some of the most common mistakes, since they are often the same for everyone. I thought it was a great idea, so we’re going to spend a few weeks on this.

Here are a few:

1 – Say: Irlanda – (not Irlandia – Ireland does not have an i in it in Spanish)
2 – Say: la gente – (not las gentes – gente is plural)
3 – Mucho = a lot – (not very – this is a VERY common mistake – Muy = very, Mucho = a lot )
4 – Say: Cené, almorcé o desayuné – (not tuve cena, tuve almuerzo, tuve desayuno – the verb in Spanish means to have breakfast, have lunch or have dinner, so the verb “tener” is redundant. – You can also say “tomar desayuno.”)
5 – Say: El viernes, el sábado, el lunes when you want to say “on Friday, on Saturday, on Monday”) – (not “en el lunes, en el martes, etc”)

Ok chicos, these are a few common errors for you to work on this week.
