Last week we talked about the importance of listening when you’re learning a language. This week I would like to address speaking.
Obviously you would all like to improve your speaking skills, otherwise you wouldn’t be taking classes at PBO. What I get asked a lot is how to improve at a faster pace. It’s simple, you just need to speak more. So the next comment I usually get is that the student has no one to practice with outside of class. But that’s ok, there are many ways to improve. Here are a few suggestions:
1 – First, make sure you’re actually participating in class
2 – Read, out loud
3 – Talk to yourself out loud, in Spanish, as much as possible
4 – Sing
5 – Practice describing things out loud, things that are going on at work, with your friends, a movie you just watched, etc.
6 – And of course, when the opportunity presents itself, talk to other native speakers – your friends, family, random people you meet, etc.
7 – And if you really want to practice speaking more with other people and a teacher to correct you, consider taking the unlimited classes at PBO for an additional $6/week ☺
